A well used and thriving facility

  • The Centre was open over 80 hours each term time week in 2009 and attracted over 67,000 visitors
  • It offered workshops and activities for all ages - from 12 months upwards
  • Over 100 volunteers from our local community helped with: direct mail, distribution, publicity, press and PR, fundraising, administration, bar, box office and event management, stewarding, etc.
  • National & local media coverage has included: The Times, The Independent, The Guardian, BBC Radios 3 & 4, Sky TV News, BBC1, BBC News 24, HTV, and Channel 4
  • Concerts have relayed on BBC Radio 3 and numerous CDs and DVDs have been recorded

  • Very successful residencies with Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Doric String Quartet
  • World Music Connect, WOMAD collaboration and John Lewis Partnership funding taking world class musicians into schools
  • Enthusiastic young audiences growing for the Centre's regular series of Family Concerts and workshops
  • 45 exceptionally gifted young musicians recruited onto South West Music School partnership scheme
  • 60 outreach projects in 157 Wiltshire & Swindon primary, secondary and special schools; in 83 youth centres and other community groups; over 18,248 people (mainly young) and 160 teachers taken part
  • Each of the 18 local community areas served by Wiltshire's new Local Area Boards has benefited
  • Over 3500 young people took part in 8744 creative music sessions during the last 12 months alone

Opportunities to perform

  • 272 concerts by young musicians, 59 by 8 Youth Orchestras plus 9 other youth groups from overseas
  • 26 County Youth Orchestra courses; 1091 West Wiltshire Young Musicians weekly rehearsals
  • 813 professional, student and community concerts, Radio 3 broadcasts, 205 talks, plus film screenings
  • A very broad range of music: world, jazz, contemporary, folk, rock, period performance, classical, opera
  • International orchestras include: OAE, BBC NOW, Britten Sinfonia, CLS, EUCO, sinfonia ViVA
  • 181,138 tickets sold; 267 concerts sold-out; attendances average 80% & grown 25% over the last 3 years
  • New and young audiences from all of Wiltshire, B&NES, Bristol, Dorset & up to 1 hour drive-time beyond
