Aims, Objectives & Values

Aims

The Wiltshire Music Centre Trust works in Wiltshire, Swindon and adjoining areas. It provides high quality, accessible and inspiring music experiences. It aims to achieve this by working strategically with a range of key partners. Its broad ranging programme of concerts, education and community work strives to engage inclusively with new audiences of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Objectives

The Wiltshire Music Centre Trust has three closely related objectives:

  • to advance music education for all ages and levels of ability, in and around Wiltshire and Swindon, placing the work of young musicians at the heart of this programme
  • to develop a high quality, varied and stimulating programme - in terms of its scope, breadth of musical cultures, and range of people involved
  • to develop and grow audiences and the range of people taking part and to develop music as an artform

Values

The Wiltshire Music Centre Trust believes passionately that the arts and music are central to the quality of life. It recognises the hugely beneficial powers of music to:

  • cultivate the emotional, spiritual and creative capacity of people
  • unlock the educational potential of the young and nourish life-long learning
  • give insight, meaning, fulfilment and expression to the human experience
  • contribute to healthy and vital communities, aware and proud of their cultural identity and heritage
  • help deliver public policy objectives and promote positive change and a better understanding of cultural diversity and distinctiveness, enhancing social cohesion.

The impetus for developing the Wiltshire Music Centre 12 years ago was the Trust's belief in the value and importance of music to young people and the wider community.  The Centre's busy, productive and popular programme continues to thrive. Its development as a community resource, with all the benefits that brings, reflects the Trust's commitment to engaging with as wide a range of people as possible.
