Management & Funding

The Wiltshire Music Centre is owned and run by the Wiltshire Music Centre Trust Ltd, an independent charitable Trust and company limited by guarantee. The Centre is now widely recognised as one of the country's most successful small-scale regional arts lottery projects. It is managed very cost effectively by a small professional staff team and over 100 dedicated volunteers. The Trust is governed by a highly skilled voluntary Board of non-executive Trustees.

The Wiltshire Music Centre is regularly funded by Arts Council England South West and Wiltshire Council. Core public funding also comes from a number of Wiltshire Town and Parish Councils.  This underpins the Centre's core costs, helping the Trust to fundraise very successfully from a wide range of other sources to support its charitable education and community work in Wiltshire.

Sources of funding outside the county include trusts, foundations, business partners and sponsors.  This complements local support from individual donors and the Friends of the Wiltshire Music Centre. This year, the Trust's very successful partnership with Wiltshire Council through the Wiltshire Music Service and Wiltshire Youth Arts Partnership has launched Wiltshire Music Connect - a project benefitting thousands of Wiltshire schoolchildren and one of just five nationally to receive a major £200K award from the Department of Children, Schools and Families through the DCSF Music Partnership Scheme.

Working in partnership with the Federation of Music Services South West, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Dartington and Wells Cathedral School, Wiltshire Music Centre played a key role in successfully launching South West Music School - the latest in a national network of Centres (CATs), funded through the DCSF, to provide advanced training tailored for exceptionally gifted young musicians. Six young musicians from Wiltshire and Swindon are now on the scheme

Significant leverage is achieved for the local authority funding that the Centre receives, for every £1 awarded by Wiltshire Council in 2009/10, over £18 is secured from other sources to benefit Wiltshire people. The Trust wishes to acknowledge its sincere thanks to all who support its work.
