Wiltshire Music Centre was founded on a commitment to
nurture musical ability or interest, regardless of age or
background.

To this end, the Centre has worked with most special schools and
many of the primary schools in Wiltshire, as well as a number of
the county's secondary schools; bringing music-making workshops to
them, led by professional musicians across all genres. These have
included the world-renowned and award-winning Doric String Quartet
and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
The Centre is also home to a variety of
orchestras, choirs and other music groups, including the West
Wiltshire Young Musicians.
The Wiltshire and Swindon Youth Orchestra uses us for week-long
intensive rehearsals.
We also run projects aimed at delivering strong musical
experiences. For example, the percussionist and civil rights'
activist Nana Tsiboe, who has shared stages with Martin Luther
King, Muhammad Ali, Sir Paul McCartney and Marvin Gaye, has given
outreach workshops with us, helping people explore their musical
heritage.
The Centre is a charitable trust and depends on many forms of
support and funding to continue nurturing musical ability and
passion.

South West Music
School (SWMS)
Wiltshire Music Centre is very proud to have played a key role
in launching South West Music School a virtual school
which provides advanced training for gifted young musicians
and singers, aged 8 to 18.
The Centre worked with the Federation of Music Services South
West, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Dartington Hall
Trust and Wells Cathedral School to establish the
school.
SWMS welcomes application from any young
people, possessing high levels of musicianship and
commitment.
It is part of a national network of Centres of
Advanced Training, supported by the Department for Education's
music and dance scheme.
