Wiltshire Music Connect

In Summer 2009, we won a £200,000 award in partnership with
Wiltshire Music Service and Wiltshire Youth Arts Partnership. It
was one of only five national awards from the Department for
Children, Schools and Families.
It is to fund 7 innovative music education projects
targeted at children and young people through out Wiltshire from
October 2009 to October 2010. The projects are:
- World Music Connect - outstanding world music
ensembles giving workshops in schools
- Outer Zone - music-making for children and
young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities in
residential centres
- Creative Sound Factory - an intensive week of
improvisation, composition and performing by young musicians of all
abilities. Following a highly successful week in October 2009,
plans are already in place for another in 2010.
- In the Beginning - a training programme for
pre-school teachers delivered by Da Capo
- Jazz Connections - schools-based residencies
and a residency by Kokoro.
- Music Matters - a county-wide music project
with and for young people at risk, those excluded from education or
suffering from various forms of isolation. The work will take place
in youth development centres, Pupil Referral Units and some schools
throughout the county.
- Kokoro Connect - Bournemouth Symphony
Orchestra's contemporary music group Kokoro will work with clusters
of schools focussing on creativity at the point of transition
between Key Stage 2 and 3.
