| Run
by an independent charitable Trust, the Wiltshire
Music Centre has a small team of five full-time
and two part-time staff, supported by more than
100 volunteers who work over 6,000 hours a year!
“You couldn't wish to meet a nicer, more
willing, supportive group of people than our volunteers.
They have a wealth of experience, are extremely
resourceful and are always willing to say 'yes,
I can do that'. I think their enthusiasm is one
of the reasons we have a reputation for being
such a friendly venue and the Centre simply couldn’t
function without their hard work.” Susie
Fry, Centre Manager
On concert nights, volunteers could be greeting
people at the door, working backstage with the
artists, showing people to their seats, manning
the bar or selling programmes or ice cream. Volunteers
also get involved by helping at conferences and
workshops, working in the Box Office, stuffing
envelopes for brochure mailings, and distributing
flyers. There are also social evenings organised
by the Trust as a way of saying thank you for
all the voluntary support the Centre receives.
Even small amounts of time make a real difference
to the Centre’s work, so if you would like
to find out more about how you could get involved,
please email Susie
Fry on 01225 860110.
What our volunteers say….
“The Centre is a place to be proud of and
there’s always something different to do.
Many people come to volunteer by themselves and
there are a lot of ex-professional people which
makes an interesting mix. The relationships between
people are really good and it is great fun.”
“I believe in education and in what the
Centre gives to our community. I thought it was
important to support it because I’m local.
I organise the stuffing of the brochure mailings.
It’s a big job but fun and it’s good
to see how much faster we can get each season.”
“I became a volunteer three years ago because
I wanted to help at the Music Centre. It is such
an incredible facility for the community. I also
get to hear lots of concerts that I wouldn’t
necessarily buy tickets for, but then the fantastic
music is a great surprise. I don’t tend
to go to concerts elsewhere – why would
I now that we have the Centre?”
“A big concert with lots going on can be
a real challenge but the other volunteers, and
the staff, are a joy to work with. It is like
a family and it is so nice to be part of.”
