One of Mozart's finest symphonies is companion to Beethoven's first - already bursting the bonds of classical form with its creative originality.  Like his contemporary, Paganini, Spohr was a celebrated violinist and also a prolific composer. Tender and songlike, dramatic and sparkling, this concerto naturally makes a dazzling showpiece for the soloist and a perfect partner for Mendelssohn's hugely popular evocation of Fingal's Cave.
