Two world class ensembles team up to conclude our classical
season. Brahms' second quartet, though no less dramatic than its
sister Op 51/1, is the more lyrical of the pair. The first movement
sets the tone with its beautiful singing lines, while the last
evokes lively Hungarian Gypsy music. Schubert's glorious
life-affirming Octet is one of the great wonders of classical
music. Even as gathering storm clouds seem to threaten all, they
are magically shot-through with sweet shafts of sunlight as only
Schubert is able to do.
