An evening of orchestral classics

VAUGHAN WILLIAMS The Lark Ascending
FINZI Clarinet Concerto
BRITTEN Folk Song Suite
BEETHOVEN Symphony No 7 in A major

Michael Collins conductor / clarinet
Alexandra Wood leader / violin

The Lark Ascending remains onef the most cherished classical works in the repertoire, famed for its reflective violin cadenzas and poignant evocation of the English countryside. Michael Collins performs as soloist in Finzi's Clarinet Concerto; a work he has been closely associated with for many years. The programme concludes with Beethoven's seventh symphony, described by Wagner as 'the apotheosis of the dance', which ends with a blaze of unrestrained joy and life-affirming glory.
