European Union Chamber Orchestra

Companion to John Ireland's eloquent and pastoral Downland Suite is this graceful and amiable concerto for the rare combination of violin and piano.  While marvelling at the brilliant achievement of 14 year old Mendelssohn, spare a thought for Hindemith who composed Trauermusik in just 6 hours!  Broadcast that same evening to mourn the passing of King George V, it has earned a well deserved place in the repertoire. Dvořák's delightful and warmly expressive Serenade makes the perfect foil. Tender, wistful, vivacious and exquisitely bittersweet by turns, it is infused with the captivating folk music of his native Bohemia.

Superb performance all round. The two soloists in the Mendelssohn excelled themselves, in particular the amazingly energetic Katja. The delightful Downland Suite and the Dvorak are always pleasing. Saw Freddy last year at Symphony Hall with CBSO but he did us proud at Bradford. Loved the colourful dresses of the ladies in the orchestra.
Finally congratulations to Keith Nimmo and his team for continuing to produce such top class entertainment.
