OAE

Following their splendid CPE and JC Bach last year, it will be a treat to hear the OAE play music by Johann Sebastian himself. The third Suite contains one of the most widely loved pieces of all, his famous 'Air on the G String'. A skilled violinist and virtuoso keyboard player, Bach led the court orchestra while Capellmeister at Köthen and this beautiful Violin Concerto dates from this time.

Though flute and violin also feature in the 5th Brandenburg Concerto, it's the harpsichord that takes the lead and Bach must surely have been the soloist at its premiere. Trumpets, oboes, timpani, and bassoon join the OAE's fabulous strings in Bach's last Suite, bringing this wonderful all-Bach programme to a gloriously rich and joyous conclusion.
