YOUTH ORCHESTRAS

West of England Youth Orchestra (WEYO) and Wiltshire Youth Jazz Orchestra (WYJO)

"I often say that if there was one thing I could wish for my daughters, it is that they get the opportunity to play in an amazing youth orchestra like I did in Wiltshire. There is nothing quite like sharing a musical experience with your friends - for me this started in the Youth Orchestra and continued through college and university and into my life in a professional orchestra."

Rachael Pankhurst, Principal Cor Anglais at the CSBO (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra), and Youth Orchestra alumni.

West of England Youth Orchestra

The West of England Youth Orchestra (formerly the Wiltshire & Swindon Youth Orchestra) offers young musicians the opportunity to rehearse and perform major symphonic works and work with section coaches, professional conductors and soloists. In its 50 year history the Orchestra has toured to Europe, US, and Asia and performed during Her Majesty the Queen's visit to Salisbury in 2012.

The Youth Orchestra is now well established as a flagship project for Wiltshire Music Centre and we continue to support its development and creativity. Tim Redmond remains as our professional conductor and, alongside an excellent team of professional sectional tutors, we offer 3 intensive courses each year. In 2018 we are also arranging a tour to the South of France, as part of the Centre's 20th Anniversary celebrations. Membership of the Orchestra has continued to expand so that as well as members from Wiltshire, Swindon and Bath we plan to go on working with South West Music School, which this summer enabled our Orchestra to welcome players from the farther reaches of Cornwall too.
The Orchestra achieves a very high standard in the concerts given at the end of each course and is now seeking new applications for auditions from young musicians at Grade 6 (strings) and Grade 7 (other instruments) or equivalent.
Being a member of WEYO will also provide the opportunity to take part in masterclasses and workshops as part of Wiltshire Music Centre's annual programme, and free tickets to live professional concerts at the Centre.
We would be delighted if you would like to apply for an audition using the enclosed form by 20th October 2017. Applications are also welcomed throughout the year and will be kept until a suitable opening occurs.

Applications for Wiltshire Youth Jazz Orchestra membership 2017/18 to be announced soon

If you feel that you need help towards the cost of participating in the orchestras, we may be able to help through a scheme run with Wiltshire Music Connect and Wiltshire Rural Music School. We believe that young people should have the opportunity to participate in the Orchestras based on their musical merit not on their ability to pay. If you would like to apply for remission of fees, please download the relevant form from below:
