Cassie Tait, Head of Creatlive Learning & Community Engagement, shares an exciting project in collaboration with EFDSS.

In Spring/Summer, we were delighted to finally get our Exploring English Folk project off the ground with a livestream workshop at WMC aimed at secondary schools. This project, funded by Wiltshire Music Connect, the music education hub for Wiltshire, was created to bring high quality live performances into schools to inspire more young people to play music.

We worked with the English Folk Dance and Song Society and their National Youth Folk Ensemble programme to bring eminent folk musicians and practitioners, Sam Sweeney and Rob Harbron, and three members of the NYFE alumni programme to deliver the livestream workshop and four school visits across the county. The livestream has been edited into a film and is free to download from our website. The film is full of fantastic English folk music, and is a perfect tool for secondary school teachers introducing their students to non-classical music genres. The resource has been uploaded to the EFDSS Resource Bank, and we’re very excited to share this with you.
