If you’re the proud owner of our latest brochure, or have recently visited our website, you’ll have seen that WMC favourites, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE), are leading an exciting project called The Moon Hares: A Community Opera. The OAE will be bringing together local primary and SEN/D schools, members of our Zone Club and our wonderful WMC Chorus, onto the WMC stage with their own professional musicians, to tell this magical new fairy tale set to luscious (mostly) Baroque music. From the start of the Autumn term, us at WMC and members of the OAE will lead workshops for all the participants involved, to practice, learn and contribute their own ideas for the final public performance on 25th November.

Collaborative community projects like this are important at the best of times, but particularly so as we continue to slowly emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic. So many communities have felt incredibly isolated over the past few years, so being able to come together to prepare, create and perform this wondrous work will not only be a musical and artistic joy, but a social one too. We are fortunate to have recently received the final pot of funding we needed to make this project happen, from the national grant-giving body The Ashley Family Foundation (of the Laura Ashley homeware and fashion brand), who focus on supporting community and arts work, particularly in rural communities.

This is all to say: the public performance of this project will be an exciting, high-quality and joyous event, so if you haven’t yet bought tickets or would like to find out more, head to our website! And, if you too are really passionate about keeping community music-making like this going, consider making a charitable donation to WMC or even becoming a regular supporter. As a registered charity, we rely heavily on donations from the public, so if you would like to know more about joining our community of donors and Friends, get in touch with our Fundraising Coordinator, Cath Rapley for a chat (cath.rapley@wiltshiremusic.org.uk).
