Zone Club is our monthly music-making project for young adults aged 16+ with learning disabilities, and a Crowdfunder Appeal is currently underway to support the production of their new album – a culmination of a year’s collaboration between Zone Clubbers and dedicated staff members, celebrating creativity and resilience during lockdown.
The Crowdfunder Appeal is aiming to reach £2,000 to fund the costs of the CD production, as well as facilitate the ongoing Zone Club monthly sessions. Currently with just over £100 left to raise, the Crowdfunding campaign ends on 11th December with an album launch concert at Wiltshire Music Centre.
While the usual in-person sessions were put on pause due to the pandemic, the group continued to meet online, providing a much-needed creative outlet and sense of camaraderie for all its members.
Katie, Zone Club participant said, “Online Zone Club was just as important to the one here [in-person] as well…I’m addicted to making music, I’m a music junkie.”
Karl Bevis, Creative Producer for Zone Club said, “Zone Club has been supporting the creativity of disabled young adults for nearly 20 years. When we had to lock-down we all knew it was vital to continue this support, given how isolated we can easily become. The Zone Clubbers ideas during Virtual Zone Club were incredible, and now the Together CD is truly inspirational as it is shows that they still have plenty to say!
The album is a real tribute to the dedication, enthusiasm, and energy from Zone Club members, who remained committed and passionate about music-making throughout the 16 months of virtual sessions. It showcases an incredible collection of songs brought together through online song-writing, with lyrics and stories from the Zone Club members themselves – all inspired by reflecting on their own individual lockdown journeys. The title track, Together, is the final track, celebrating the shared experience of making-music in person.
Zone Club offers a safe and creative space for learning disabled young adults to share their collective passion for music – from rapping, singing, song-writing, music tech, conducting to drumming! Led by a freelance team of practitioners of music-therapists, musicians, actors and other arts specialists, Zone Club meets monthly to give young adults aged 16+ inspirational creative experiences.
Cassie Tait, Head of Creative Learning & Community Engagement said, “We are all so proud and excited to share the incredible album of songs our Zone Club have created over lockdown. The songs will make you dance, weep and everything in between! We hope you can join us on 11th December for what will be an unforgettable concert to celebrate all that has been achieved. Everyone is welcome!"
The Crowdfunding campaign ends on 11th December with the album launch concert at Wiltshire Music Centre.
