In October we welcomed award-winning choir Tenebrae to make their WMC debut! They performed a stunning and varied programme, including original compositions and reworkings of Beatles songs, and invited our very own WMC Chorus to join them on stage. Made up of 28 participants, the chorus joined Tenebrae for performances of The Gift to be Simple by Bob Chilcott, Loch Lomond Trad by David Overton and You Are The New Day by John David and Peter Knight.
What a joy it was to be back rehearsing and singing together preparing for a workshop and performance with members of Tenebrae. Three Thursday evening sessions of rusty voice removal meant we were ready for a last minute polish on Saturday afternoon, yet even my positive expectations were blown out the water as Hannah and Victoria, our two associate artists delighted us with vocal exercises and educated us to the subtleties of the Tenebrae way. 30 singers had at least 20 years taken off their voices and Nigel Short honed some beautifully crafted phrasing in a generous 45 minutes to make the performance in the concert a real treat for all involved.
Stay tuned for more news on the next WMC Chorus project to come!
