Explore, create, take part! Join us for a day of musical family fun packed with activities, creative games and craft for kids. Try out real instruments, watch live musicians and get stuck into lots of different activities. Enter a world of drumming, tooting and strumming and discover all of the brilliant ways that children can enjoy music-making throughout the year at WMC.

Suitable for all ages.

One of the most exciting parts of the event is the opportunity to take part in a wonderful family performance at the end of the day. We will be using the BBC Ten Pieces, a specially designed set of arrangements of orchestral pieces that allow beginners and advanced players to come together in the same performance, so if you pick up a violin for the very first time on the 23rd you will be able to experience the buzz of a live show on stage!

This is a fantastic opportunity for all the family to perform together. We will be playing two of the BBC Ten Pieces arrangements which have parts for most instruments at all levels, so whether you have just started learning an instrument or are a seasoned professional everyone is welcome. It might even be the perfect excuse to blow the dust of that old instrument.

If you would like to be part of the WMC Family Orchestra then please bring your instrument with you on the day. The pieces we will be playing are Grieg: ‘Hall of the Mountain King’ and Copland: ‘Hoedown’. If you would like to have a look at the music for the pieces before-hand then you can find it here.
