BACH Ich habe genug BWV 82
HANDEL Apollo & Dafne
Roderick Williams baritone
Rowan Pierce soprano
Operatic secular cantata Apollo e Dafne is one of the finest smaller scale dramatic works completed during Handel’s youthful years in Italy. It tells the story of Apollo’s pursuit of the nymph Dafne through a mixture of virtuosic and heart-rending music. Bach’s sacred solo cantata BWV 82 portrays the reverence and awe of the moment when the holy man Simeon meets and holds the infant Jesus. Leading British baritone Roderick Williams returns to WMC with acclaimed soprano Rowan Pierce to take centre stage for an intimate performance with WMC’s Orchestra in Residence the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
