Lucis begin their 2019 season with a performance of one of the most well-loved and enduring Requiem masses. We will be singing the composer's own transcription of the orchestral accompaniment for two pianos.
Brahms laboured over his 'magnum opus' for eleven years (from 1857 to 1868), and it is his longest major work. While he never finished an opera, his requiem is at once his most theatrical piece and a stunningly symmetrical symphonic form. It is also a candid glimpse into the composer's heart, a place he was usually reluctant to let his listeners explore.
The concert will be dedicated to the memory of one of our former choir members, Lyn Withers.
