BEETHOVEN String Quartet No 7 Op 59

The Op. 59 Quartets follow in the tradition of Viennese chamber music by Haydn and Mozart, but unlike these works are longer, technically very challenging, and psychologically more intense. The quartets were all written in a six-month period beginning in April 1806 and, coming soon after the Eroica Symphony, Op. 59 No. 1 is one of the compositions that heralded Beethoven’s so-called “heroic” second period. Join musicologist Katy Hamilton and the Marmen Quartet for this lecture recital which will explore the compositional and historic origins of this seminal work.
