The trio sonata was one of the most popular chamber music forms during the Baroque period and was particularly attractive to Italian composers as a means of showcasing instrumental virtuosity and melodic creativity. Corelli‘s compositions became hugely influential in their day and travelled far beyond Italy; they inspired many other European composers, including Handel, whose trio sonatas formed a significant part of his instrumental compositions.
