Cross-border folk multiinstrumentalists and festival favourites The Shee are an exceptional all-female band boasting powerful and emotional vocal performances and instrumental prowess.
Showcasing the talents of Radio 2 Folk Musician of the year 2017 Rachel Newton on harp and strings, and Sting’s ‘go to’ clog dancer Amy Thatcher on accordion, the band have a huge range of individual musical influences that bring together an adventurous brew of traditional folk, Gaelic tunes and bluegrass music.
In 2016, having reached the ten-year milestone in their action-packed career, they celebrated with a body of original work, their fourth album ‘Continuum’. Following three critically acclaimed albums; 'A Different Season', 'Decadence' & 'Murmurations' and a hectic touring schedule over the decade, the six members of the band each commissioned a Folk Music hero, and in some cases mentor, to write an original piece of music for for their fourth album 'Continuum' to celebrate their tenth anniversary.
Premiered at their sell out concert at Celtic Connections and toured around the UK and at Summer festivals, the album received great audience and press acclaim. For their Spring 2019 UK tour The Shee will be joined by Scottish-Icelandic percussionist and drummer Signy Jakobsdottir, adding a fesh approach to the band's huge catalogue of material. The band are now working on material for their new album, which will feature an adventurous brew of Folk, Gaelic and Bluegrass music. Expect slow airs, Gaelic ballads, original songs, highenergy tunes, hypnotic riffs, and, of course...clog dancing!
