Spend lunchtime exploring piano works from Bach, Beethoven and the Arab world

DIA SUCCARI Danse De Leila from his collection “Musique du Proche Orient”
BACH Partita No 2 in C minor BWV 826
BEETHOVEN Piano Sonata No 23 in F Minor Op 57 “Appassionata”
WALID AL HAJJAR Etude Revolutionaire No 1

Syrian-British pianist Riyad Nicolas presents an enthralling programme of piano pieces from Bach to Beethoven, alongside evocative works by Dia Succari and Walid Al Hajjar showcasing musical innovation from the Arab world.

Syrian-British pianist Riyad Nicolas presents a captivating programme of piano masterpieces. The programme opens with Bach’s remarkable Partita No. 2 in C minor, followed by Beethoven’s fiery and dramatic Appassionata Sonata. Alongside these cornerstones of the repertoire, Riyad introduces a compelling contemporary contrast with Danse de Leila by Syrian-French composer Dia Succari—rich in rhythm and colour—and Etude No. 2 by Walid Al Hajjar, showcasing musical innovation from the Arab world.

Praised by Daniel Barenboim and described by the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe as “setting a new gold standard,” Riyad has performed at major venues worldwide, from Wigmore Hall to Washington’s Kennedy Center. This recital promises virtuosic flair, emotional depth, and a bridge between classical tradition and modern voice.
