A percussion programme celebrating the American minimalist Steve Reich
Programme:
STEVE REICH Clapping Music
STEVE REICH Nagoya Marimbas
AILEEN SWEENEY Starburst
STEVE REICH Mallet Quartet
STEVE REICH Drumming Part 1
JULIA WOLFE Dark Full Ride
Alongside four of Steve Reich’s works, from his simplest rhythmic experiment to his richest ensemble writing, are pieces by two composers who share his love of pulse and repetition. It’s an impressive percussive showcase that begins with bare hands, moves through marimbas and vibraphones, then bongos, and ends with four full drum kits.
