Bethan Cheshire’s Journey in Music so far
Wiltshire Rural Music, in partnership with Wiltshire Music Centre, are proud to present an evening concert of music curated by our Liz Lawrence Award Winner, 19 year old Bethan Cheshire. This award is given annually to an outstanding young musician seeking higher education in the field of music and Bethan scooped the £1,000 prize in 2024 thanks to her incredible skills on Bassoon. Bethan Cheshire is an incredibly versatile and talented musician from Westbury who will be hosting this night of music to celebrate her win.
A Bassoonist at heart, Bethan will be diving back into her cello and piano repertoire to bring us a concert across all three instruments, devised and curated by her. Special guests include her friends, family and teachers. Bethan will perform as part of a wind quintet, cello quartet, clarinet and bassoon trio, bassoon duet and piano and cello solo, proving her diversity across all her musical disciplines.
Music has been part of Bethan Cheshire’s life for as long as she can remember. Starting out on the recorder aged 4, she quickly moved on to the piano, before moving on to bassoon, cello and piano aged 7. Zoom ahead 10 years and Bethan had achieved Grade 8 on all three instruments, which is why tonight’s performance is going to be particularly special and varied. Currently studying Music at Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (Glasgow), Bethan is a dedicated Bassoonist, having started her playing with Wiltshire Young Musicians and the West of England Youth Orchestra here at WMC. She has since gone on to perform with the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain and be invited to play with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, even before she had begun her studies in Glasgow.
Wiltshire Rural Music is a Trowbridge-based charity that bring music and music-making opportunities to the people of Wiltshire. To find out more about student bursaries, room hire, instrument hire and our rural outreach programmes, head to www.wiltshireruralmusic.co.uk.
