Award-winning composer and vocal artist brings her extraordinary choral world to WMC. Includes support from two community choirs
A swirling, shape-shifting explosion of song.
Veering from fierce to fragile, Verity Standen’s compositions envelop us in the power and poignancy of unaccompanied voices.
Eleven extraordinary singers, drawn from a range of musical backgrounds, invite you into a unique and visceral sound world. Featuring rich harmony, choreography and playful improvisation, the ensemble meet the challenge of these songs afresh each night – a deeply human, intrinsically live experience evoking the fragments of our lives. Tough and tender. The still before the storm.
Verity Standen creates unique and surprising music for voices. Her work has been performed across the UK – from remote Scottish islands to the rooftop of the National Theatre – and around the world. She often composes for specific environments, filling castles, cafes and hospital wards with song. everything slips brings her vibrant style into the concert hall.
This one-hour, straight through performance is preceded by a community choir showcase with Courage Youth Choir, led by Felicity Courage featuring singers from St Laurence School, and Doves Peace Choir, led by Clara Atkins.
